Answers to some of the questions we are most often asked about our tallow skincare, ordering and delivery.
What is tallow skincare?
Tallow is a traditional animal fat that can be refined and used in waterless skincare. At The Tallow & Thyme Company, it forms the base of many of our balms and is combined with carefully selected oils, waxes, butters and botanicals depending on the product.
What is the difference between a traditional balm and a whipped balm?
Traditional Tallow Balm has a firmer, smooth texture and melts as it warms against the skin. Whipped Tallow Balm is aerated to create a softer, lighter, mousse-like texture. Both are concentrated, waterless products, so a small amount goes a long way.
Which product should I start with?
If you are new to tallow skincare and want the simplest option, our Unscented range is a good place to begin. The Balm Discovery Set is another way to try all four traditional balm scents in smaller 15g tins.
Does Unscented contain fragrance or essential oils?
No added fragrance or essential oils are used in our Unscented balms. Natural ingredients can still have a mild characteristic aroma.
Where are your products made?
Our skincare is handmade in small batches in South Devon.
How should I use a tallow balm?
Start with a small amount and warm it between clean fingertips before gently massaging it into clean, dry skin. Add more only if needed.
Why can the colour, scent or texture vary slightly?
We work with natural ingredients and make in small batches, so small variations between batches can occur. This is part of the handmade nature of the products.
How should I keep water out of my balm?
Because our balms are waterless, keep water out of the product. Always apply with clean, dry hands or a clean, dry spatula, replace the lid securely after use, and store the product in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight.
What happens if my balm softens in warm weather?
Natural balm-based products can soften during warm weather or transit. Place the product somewhere cool and allow it to firm up before use. This does not usually affect the product quality.
Where do you deliver?
We currently deliver within the United Kingdom only. Standard UK delivery is free on orders of £30 or more. Other available delivery options and costs are shown at checkout.
How quickly will my order be dispatched?
Orders are usually processed within 2–4 working days, excluding weekends and bank holidays. Because we are a small-batch business, processing may take a little longer during particularly busy periods.
Can I return a product?
Unused, unopened and sealed products may be eligible for return. For hygiene reasons, opened or used skincare and lip-care products cannot normally be returned unless faulty. Please see our Refund Policy for the full terms.
My order arrived damaged or incorrect. What should I do?
Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery and include your order number and photographs of the issue so we can look into it promptly.
